From Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October, Sète pays tribute to Jean Vilar: an opening show at the Théâtre Molière, then a tour of the "Les couleurs de Jean Vilar" exhibition, round tables, a talk, readings and street theatre around the Musée Paul Valéry. Most weekend events are free, booking required.
Sète, which has deep ties with Jean Vilar, devotes three days to him. Held every two years, the Jean Vilar Days return for a second edition from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October 2026, focusing on the friendships and collaborations that shaped his theatre, in Avignon and at the Théâtre National Populaire.
The event opens on Friday at 8 pm at the Théâtre Molière with "Vous êtes ici", a show by Edith Amsellem that reveals the venue's backstage world (€8 to €27).
On Saturday, the Musée Paul Valéry offers a guided tour of the "Les couleurs de Jean Vilar" exhibition by its curator, a round table with Macha Makeïeff and Hervé Di Rosa, a talk, then "Le Dossier Oppenheimer", a play written by Vilar. On Sunday, there is street theatre on trestle stages, readings of Georges Perros and a round table on Jean Vilar, Gérard Philipe and the TNP company.
Weekend events at the museum are listed as free, subject to availability, with booking required. The exhibition runs until 8 November.
