From Saturday 17 to Thursday 22 October 2026, Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert devotes an exhibition to Jean Paulet, a potter who set up his workshop in the village. It is held at 4 Rue de la Fontaine du Portal.
A pioneer of contemporary terracotta, Jean Paulet worked at a turning point, when traditional pottery was undergoing great change. His pared-back, classical style carries the legacy of ancient ceramics.
Early in his career he made everyday pottery which, over time, was transformed and stretched until it expressed genuine artistic exploration.
His work paved the way for contemporary ceramic figures such as Pierre Bayle, Loul Combres and Jean-Pierre Azais. He also gave fresh impetus to pottery in neighbouring Saint-Jean-de-Fos, a village known for this craft.
